About 40% of people who need to be screened for colon cancer never do. Could this test be an answer? Join Lindsay and Dr. Bill Blanchet and get the answer.

Dr. Bill Blanchet: How You Can Prevent the Top 3 Diseases Killing Americans

Unfortunately, you read that right. The top 3 diseases that account for the overwhelming majority of deaths in the United States are all preventable! The Number 1 disease has been the top killer since the 1900's!! This is beyond ridiculous. This is completely unacceptable and apparently it is up to us to change these statistics. Modern medicine obviously has not, and is not moving fast enough. In case you don't have time to listen to this 45 minute life-saving podcast with Dr. Bill Blanchet, here's the bottom line: Go get a heart scan. Forget your cholesterol numbers, learn what your heart score is. Go get a CT Lung scan. Get a colonoscopy, either conventional or the new virtual. Just do it, stop fussing. You can self refer for all of these scans, and most private insurances will pay for the lung and colon scans.

This is a good one. Bottom line, gastroenterologists are against virtual colonoscopies because they think it takes business away from them. Primary care physicians don't routinely support virtuals because they don't know much about them and therefore defer to the gastroenterologists. This leaves 33% of us getting a conventional colonoscopy, and approximately 66% of us not getting any colon screening for bunches of reasons. And we wonder why colon cancer remains the 2nd leading cause of cancer related deaths in the U.S. And...it's a disease that is over 90% curable if found early with appropriate screening.
QUESTION: If I am a hyper-absorber of plant sterols, am I sensitive to fats in general? Should I reduce my omega 3 intake?

GENERAL BACKGROUND: Plant sterols are naturally occurring substances found in plants. They are present in small quantities in many fruits, vegetables, vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, cereals and legumes.

Research has shown that plant sterols included with a heart healthy eating plan may reduce your risk for heart disease. This lowers the low density cholesterol known as the 'bad' cholesterol (LDL ) by 6-15%, without lowering the good cholesterol known as the high density cholesterol ( HDL).

<itunes:summary>QUESTION: If I am a hyper-absorber of plant sterols, am I sensitive to fats in general? Should I reduce my omega 3 intake?
GENERAL BACKGROUND: Plant sterols are naturally occurring substances found in plants. They are present in small quantities in many fruits, vegetables, vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, cereals and legumes.
Research has shown that plant sterols included with a heart healthy eating plan may reduce your risk for heart disease. The sterols work by blocking the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine. This lowers the low density cholesterol known as the 'bad' cholesterol (LDL ) by 6-15%, without lowering the good cholesterol known as the high density cholesterol ( HDL).</itunes:summary>

In Memory of Bob Smith - A Death in Vain

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. This is a very special program featuring Lindsay's Aunt Mary, calling The Tuesday Talk rShow from Michigan. The program is dedicated to Lindsay's cousin Bob who died 6 months ago at age 51 from colon cancer. This is a tragedy. It need not have happened. This is a disease with a very high cure rate, if detected early. For anyone with a family history of colon cancer, I sincerely ask you to listen to my Aunt Mary's story and the story of her son Bob. If we can get any one of you in for colon cancer screening as a result of this program, then perhaps there can be some solace in knowing that our family tragedy could help spare another. Thank you for listening, and thank you for passing this podcast along to someone you know who needs to hear this as well.

Thriving After Colon Cancer

Dr. Daine shares his personal experience as he talks about his own diagnosis of colon cancer. The physical healing process, he discovered, is completely different than the emotional healing process. How one copes with either of these processes can be opportunities for growth. They can also have the equal potential of being incapacitating. What is it like when we are forced to face our own mortality? How much can we control? What can we do?
